Greetings Scholars and Families!

My name is Katrina Baker and I am proud to serve as your Dean of Students at our Avondale campus. If you ask my mom, she would say I have been in education since I was 4 because I was always playing Teacher, but I officially earned that job title in 2004 working in a Head Start Preschool classroom. My years in education have brought me through the door of every grade level from Preschool to High School Seniors and in a variety of roles, however, the largest chunk of my career thus far has been working with 7th and 8th grade students sharpening their historical analyzing skills as a Social Studies teacher.  I became a teacher because interacting with kids is like chicken noodle soup for my soul. There is no greater feeling than making a positive impact in the life of a child and you always get back 1000 times more than what you give them! I chose SVA because I was looking for a home with an organization that put the heart back into education and made decisions out of what is going to be the best for scholars. A fun fact about me is that I love rollercoasters and thrill rides. My favorite rides I’ve been on so far are a tie between the Guardians of the Galaxy Ride at Disneyland and the Griffin rollercoaster at Busch Gardens in Virginia.
