My name is Geoffrey Bailey, and I am the Art Teacher at Sun Valley Academy. People often ask me how long I have been drawing, and the truth is I cannot remember a time when I didn’t. Art is a part of who I am, how I think, and how I understand the world. Of course I had to make a career of it. I graduated at the top of my class from The Art Institute of Phoenix in 2014 with a BA in Game Art & Design. Since then I’ve worked on video games as a designer, concept artist, 3d production artist, and 3d Animator. I’ve done fine art by commission for individual clients. Throughout my career, artwork has always been done with specific goals in place: the needs of a project, or the vision of a client, production budgets, deadlines. I bring that kind of thinking with me to the classroom. Facing artistic challenges in an organized way teaches us more than just art. We expand our problem solving abilities. We learn how to give and receive criticism in a constructive way. Art gives us more tools with which to mentally grasp information and concepts in other subjects and exercises our brains to handle more complex ideas. On top of all that, it’s just good for the soul. It’s a joy to share these things with young scholars and to guide them toward success. Very few things can be so rewarding.
